Hair like candy floss

May 03, 2013

Last Friday, as I was browsing the hair dyes in Boots, with the intention of buying the brightest orange, some peachy blonde caught my eye. After only a short moment comparing several bleaches, I bought the strongest packet from Live Colour XXL. I only needed a few words of encouragement from my flatmates before I decided to take the plunge to go blonde. I also took inspiration from some lovely pink haired ladies including Kailey of MermaidensMarianne of Esme and the LanwayHannah of Hannah and Landon, and Charlotte Free. It turned out I needed two packets of bleach, which is lucky because I bought a second from the supermarket just in case. Then I smothered my hair in Manic Panic (in hot hot pink, I think) super diluted with conditioner, which turned out a little too fuchsia on the fringe and quite salmon on the rest of my hair. Shampooing has since evened it all out (thank goodness!) Once the pink fades out I'll probably bleach it again to catch the few sneaky bits that have remained darker than the rest and try a new bubblegum pink. In conclusion, the pink is here to stay, for some time at least. Don't ask why because I don't really know, it feels like it was a moment of madness, but I haven't regretted it yet.

The weather is on the up again in London, the sunshine really lifts the spirits. I switched my winter wardrobe for my summer wardrobe and I now have a collection of adorable summer dresses that I've been slowly accumulating all winter. This is one I thrifted, it's vintage Monsoon and would be perfect for picnics. It's also the colour of sea foam so I wore my shell bag with it (another second hand find). I can't decide whether I want to be a mermaid or a princess but I'm happy to settle for both. Splashing in the waves in the light of a setting summer sun, I would be the happiest mermaid princess...

  4. Oooh i love this! You look beautiful!!! I have been having a little moment with pink and hair too. Except i am not quite as adventurous as you. I have been inspired lots by the beautiful Spring blossom bursting out everywhere and so have been adorning my barnet with lots of pink flowers and chalking the ends of my pale blonde hair baby pink. I didnt really think it was my sort of thing at first…but im getting a bit addicted! Going to try baby blue next…

Apologies for the rambely posting lol, this is just a lovely post!xxxx

    1. I think chalking looks fantastic when it works! My hair is too dark but I did have a pink dip dye two years ago, but it wasn't until now that I had the courage (or stupidity) to go full pink. It's not that bad and if you hate it, it shampoos out easily and can be dyed over with something more normal. I hope the blue goes well, please post photos so that I can admire the result!

    1. Thank you! I would definitely advocate going pink, just because it's so much fun! Manic panic is good but they don't have a pink that's warm enough on its own so I have to blend it to match my skintone.

  12. Oh Ron, your hair is gorgeous! You're so brave for doing it yourself - I've just gone a gingerish red but I'd cock it up if I tried doing it myself. I really love pastel hair and I'd secretly love a lilac/blonde do like Kelly Osborne, but I don't think I've got the right skin tone for it.

  15. I love your thrifted purse (so unique!) and gingham dress. They both go amazingly well with your new pink hair. Unfortunately, my place of work does not allow fun pink hair. Otherwise, I'd be quite tempted to give it a go.

Hello, thanks for taking the time to write a comment. I don't always reply (because I'm too busy hiding under a rock) but I read and appreciate every single one!
